Olavi Uusivirta - Tuu Mun Vaimoksein (Marry Me)

The straight translation from "Tuu mun vaimoksein" would be "become my wife", but there's a good reason why I decided to do it like this. In Finnish it's more typical to ask "Will you become my wife?" instead of "Will you marry me?" (naturally it doesn't work if the person you're asking this is a man). In English it sounds much smoother and just generally better to ask someone to marry you instead asking them to directly become your wife or husband.

This was a bit annoying to translate because it repeats itself so many times. I still enjoy listening to it though, it's beautiful!

Samuli Edelmaan is a fairly well-known actor and singer, the son of the composer Toni Edelmann. He was born in 1968 in Pori.

Now, Jippu isn't as famous as Samuli Edelmann and to be honest I keep forgetting her name, but she still has a wonderful voice~

I really like this song. I only truly understood it now when I translated it. I haven't listened to it in ages but damn it's great! Poor grandpa though.

But yeah, I guess the idea of using the term "Tuntematon potilas" came from the book Tuntematon sotilas: The Unknown Soldier by Väinö Linna. It's a story about the Continuation War between Finland and the Soviet Union from the Finnish soldiers' point of view. Arttu Wiskari, you clever man!

Juice Leskinen was one of the most prominent Finnish song-writers of the late 20th century. Even the Finnish youngsters appreciate him and his amazing songs and especially the lyrics. Sadly he died in 2006, but we could never forget someone like Juice!

Piha ilman sadettajaa: Yard without a sprinkler is my first translation on this blog! I love this song and I've listened to it quite a lot of times. Zen Café is a rock band formed in 1992 in Turku and thanks to the bassist, the name was derived from the book Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance by Robert M. Pirsig. Enjoy!
